Cyberworld Peace Ambassadors appointed based upon action strategy: BNPT

Jakarta – The appointment of Cyberworld Peace Ambassadors (Duta Damai Dunia Maya) is based on the National Action Plan for Combating Extremism (RAN PE), the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has stated.

” The activity belongs to the RAN PE that is strengthened by Presidential Guideline No. 7 of 2021, which is a tool for avoiding intolerance, radicalization, and violence-based extremism,” director of security at the BNPT, Imam Margono, stated in a declaration, here on Friday.

The ambassadors should play an active role in spreading messages of peace in cyberspace as part of an effort to avoid the spread of radical terrorism, he included.

The appointment of the ambassadors is considered a “regrowth,” which is based on RAN PE’s Pillar 1 worrying prevention.

The action strategy likewise focuses on increasing the capacity of stakeholders to avoid violence-based extremism by exploring ways to conquer it, as well as strengthening youth’s capacity and endurance.

” Youth capacity structure is required as youths are a susceptible group,” he stated.

To eliminate intolerant and extreme content in the online world, the action strategy also mandates producing Internet-friendly material for youths, he added.

Margono revealed the groups that support radicalization, extremism, and terrorism, are using more recent ways, particularly the digital world, to circulate their information.

” They are now utilizing the digital platform, where this platform has no limits,” he stated.

He informed that a lot of digital platform users are young people, ranging from millennials, Gen Xs, to Gen Zs, which is driving severe groups to the platforms to spread their mentors.

” We begin to avoid it from upstream, particularly through these Ambassadors of Cyberworld Peace, by flooding the online world with rejuvenating and tolerant material since the present war (versus extremism) is no longer face-to-face, but through the online world,” he discussed.

He said that the ambassadors must collaborate with and receive assistance from the local governments so they can battle extremism together.
