Credible data important to set locus, targets of public law: ministry

The one who controls the information will manage the world.

Jakarta – The availability of reliable information is important for identifying the places and targets of policy execution, such as stunting and severe poverty alleviation, according to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK).

” The one who controls the information will control the world. Mastering and understanding the usage of the information is the crucial to (executing) suitable and precise policies,” stated Andie Megantara, Kemenko PMK’s secretary, remarked on Tuesday.

He made the statement at an online occasion titled “The Data Literacy Class for Household Development, Population, and Family Planning (Bangga Kencana), Stunting, and Targets for the Acceleration of the Reduction of Extreme Hardship (P3KE) Programs.”

He described that the government presently utilizes 2 kinds of information to identify the locus of different public laws.

The first is macro data prepared by Data Indonesia (BPS), while the 2nd is micro data used to set intervention targets for individuals and households.

The micro information originates from Population Administration Data from House Affairs Ministry, Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) from Social Affairs Ministry, and Household Data Collection (PK) from National Population and Household Preparation Company (BKKBN).

” Those 3 data consist of details by name and address, covering almost the whole population of Indonesia, and are managed by law,” Megantara mentioned.

He also applauded the information obtained from BKKBN’s PK, as it covers about 80 percent of the overall population and has comprehensive info on demographics, social and spatial information, access to household preparation programs, and other population and household development information.

In addition, the government uses the P3KE data to correctly map which social intervention programs require to be implemented and who the beneficiaries of the programs are, he stated.

The General Public Works and Public Real Estate (PUPR) Ministry utilizes the information for real estate and hardship handling programs, the Communications and Informatics Ministry for distributing set top box support in the analogue-to-digital switch off program, and local governments for determining the recipients of town cash assistance.

The Education, Culture, Research Study, and Innovation Ministry uses the P3KE information to enhance the implementation of the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) and Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) for college programs, Megantara included.

” Therefore, the Data Literacy Class for Bangga Kencana, Stunting, and P3KE Programs is an extremely strategic activity to increase our capability as evidence-based policy makers,” he said.
