BKSDA validates 31 animals saved in illegal trade crackdown passed away

Palembang, South Sumatra – The South Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Workplace (BKSDA) notified that 31 out of the 118 animals, rescued by the authority during a recent crackdown on an animal trade syndicate to Thailand, had actually failed to endure.

” The dead animals are primarily birds, as they might not endure the extended period of confinement in cages inside the cars and truck that travelled a long distance,” the South Sumatra BKSDA Head Ujang Wisnubarata stated in Palembang, Thursday.

The animals were rescued throughout a raid on a minivan suspected to be used in an unlawful animal trade distribute. The car was parked on the Soekarno-Hatta Bypass Road, Palembang, on Wednesday (Sept 29).

The officers discovered 118 wild animals of various species cramped inside the cars and truck. The wild animals saved from the cars and truck made up palm cockatoos, crowned pigeons, loriini birds, blue-tongue skinks, sugar gliders, and javan mongooses, Wisnubrata noted.

Those animals, mainly endemic to the eastern Indonesian area, were found to be in bad health. The saved animals were then given the BKSDA facility, while the sick ones were treated by BKSDA vets, the BKSDA head mentioned.

” Healthy animals are currently kept at the BKSDA facilities at the Jakabaring Bird Park in Palembang, while the authority is getting ready for their release into the natural environment,” Wisnubrata mentioned.

The South Sumatra BKSDA has actually collaborated with its counterpart in Jakarta and other local BKSDAs to release the animals on October 5 or as soon as they are deemed prepared to be launched, he verified.

” We are keeping track of the saved animals’ health, and we will expedite our treatment for their fast release into their natural environment,” Wisnubrata mentioned.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra Authorities Criminal Investigation Directorate’s Special Crime Sub-directorate head Adjunct Senior Commissioner Rahmat Sihotang verified that the police was currently investigating the case and the cars and truck owner’s identity.

” We presume around 3 criminals are associated with the criminal activity, and our officers are currently investigating information regarding the owner of the automobile where we discovered the wild animals,” Sihotang mentioned.
