Jakarta – The National Development Preparation Agency (Bappenas) has prepared several situations for accomplishing net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, as part of climate modification mitigation efforts, National Development Preparation Minister, Suharso Monoarfa, revealed on Tuesday.

” Bappenas has conducted several workouts and prepared several situations to accomplish net-zero emissions, based upon the selected year of accomplishing them– 2045, 2050, 2060, or 2070,” he said at the virtual Indonesia Net-Zero Top 2021 on Tuesday.

Indonesia is still dealing with problems in new and renewable energy generation, so greenhouse gas emissions would peak in 2033 or 2034, according to the circumstance for accomplishing net-zero emissions by 2060 or 2070, he added.

Ecological expert Emil Salim said carbon neutrality need to be achieved by 2050 to prevent the effect of environment change, such as rising temperature levels.

Salim, who served as the Indonesian environment minister from 1978 to 1998, stressed the nation’s technique need to change to concentrate on constructing a more sustainable or green economy. Therefore, he required an immediate shift from nonrenewable fuel sources, coal, and gas to renewable energy sources.
