2 hurt in shooting on TGPF get treatment in Jakarta

Jakarta – 2 individuals suffering gunshot wounds in a shooting attack on a joint fact-finding group (TGPF) probing the killing of 2 soldiers and two civilians in Intan Jaya, Papua, were flown to Jakarta, Saturday, for treatment.

” Today, the TGPF member and TNI (Indonesian military) soldier, who sustained injuries in the attack on Friday night, were flown to Jakarta for additional treatment,” Deputy Chief of the TGPF and Deputy for Laws and Human Rights to Coordinating Minister for Legal, Political, and Security Affairs Sugeng Purnomo noted in a press declaration released on Saturday.

The TGPF member is determined as Bambang Purwoko, a speaker and scientist of the Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University (UGM), while the TNI soldier is identified as First Sergeant Faisal Akbar from the Gorontalo district military command 1304.

They sustained gunshot wounds throughout a shooting attack when a group of TGPF members returned after examining the scene of a shooting case in Intan Jaya District on Friday.

Purnomo revealed that the two victims were left from Sugapa, Intan Jaya, to Timika aboard an Indonesian Air Force Caracal helicopter on Saturday early morning. From Timika, they were flown to Jakarta aboard an Indonesian Flying force Boeing airplane.

He mentioned that Purwoko’s leg had actually got injured, while Faisal was shot at in the waist area.

He highlighted the TGPF’s focus on assessing all activities they had performed while providing due focus to the safety and security of its members without differing its mission to secure clear info on the case.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, formed the TGPF early this month to penetrate the attacks in Intan Jaya District that resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two civilians.

The minister designated everyday chief of the National Police Commission, Benny Mamoto, as chief of the fact-finding group and the ministry’s deputy for legal and human rights coordination, Sugeng Purnomo, as the deputy chief.

” The group will be designated for two weeks, beginning the issuance of this decree. They will report the outcome (of the examination) to the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs,” he said.

The group consists of 18 members, drawn from the Indonesian military, cops, governmental staff office, and Papua social figures.

An armed civilian group in Hitadipa, Papua, had earlier reportedly shot dead 2 Indonesian military personnel, a civilian, and a priest.

The Indonesian military kept in mind that the objective behind the shootings was to draw attention, particularly prior to the United Nations General Assembly.
