KPK urged to follow up on Djoko Tjandra case after court verdict

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is facing pressure to dig deeper into a case involving graft convict Djoko Soegiarto Tjandra to address unanswered questions. A panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Djoko on Monday to four-and-a-half years in prison and slapped him with a fine of Rp 100 million (US$6,867) for bribing police generals and an Attorney General Office (AGO) prosecutor to secure a Supreme Court acquittal. The verdict was heavier than the sentence demanded by prosecutors, who were aiming for four years’ imprisonment. The bench found several aggravating factors that led to the heavier sentence, including Djoko’s escape from his previous sentence.
