Jakarta. According to data from the Jakarta provincial government, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the capital city increased by 43.09 percent in May despite the large-scale social restriction, or PSBB, being extended for the third time until June 4.

Jakarta has so far reported 7,485 confirmed Covid-19 cases – more than any other province in the country – since the first two were announced on March 2.

In May, there were 3,134 cases, an average of 101 cases per day.

The highest single-day rises occurred on May 10 with 182 new cases, on May 14 with 180 and on May 5 with 169.

The lowest single-day rises occurred on May 4 and May 11, with 55 cases each.

The capital city’s highest single-day rise in cases was 236 on April 9.

The provincial government said the only conclusion that could be drawn from the numbers is that Jakarta’s pandemic curve is still highly fluctuating.

On Monday, Jakarta reported 137 new cases, more than any other provinces and more than double the figure in East Java, now regarded as the new epicenter of the Indonesian outbreak.

Indonesia registered 609 new cases on Tuesday to bring the country’s total to 27,549.
