Jakarta – Indonesia recorded a total of 2,276 natural disasters in the year ending October 17, 2020, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Company (BNPB).
Most of the natural catastrophes were hydrometeorological catastrophes triggered by meteorological/natural phenomena, the company stated in a main statement published on Twitter on Saturday.
The natural disasters consisted of 827 floods, 637 whirlwinds and 416 landslides.
The disasters impacted 4.5 million individuals, with 307 people losing their lives, 25 individuals going missing out on and 469 individuals sustaining injuries. In addition, the disasters likewise caused light, moderate and serious damages to 35,176 homes and 1,481 public facilities.
The firm also recorded a total of 321 forest and land fires and 5 volcanic eruptions over the amount of time.
Meanwhile, non-natural catastrophes include COVID-19 pandemic. Up Until Saturday (Oct 17), Indonesia reported 357,762 validated cases, with 381,592 people recuperating from the infection and 12,431 others catching it.
