IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Around 1.8 million doses of Sinovac vaccines from China has arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Thursday noon, December 31, aboard a Garuda Indonesia flight.
The arrival of these vaccines adds to the previous 1.2 million vaccine payload on December 6, which makes it a total of 3 million doses. The first shipment has been kept at the Bio Farma headquarters in Bandung City.
However, the country’s vaccination program can only be enacted after an emergency use authorization (EUA) is given by the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) for circulation.
The Sinovac candidate-vaccines are currently undergoing its third clinical trial phase before it is deemed safe to be injected on the general public.
The BPOM chief Penny Lukito said that the clinical trial research team will produce interim test results during the first week of January 2021 which is intended to accelerate the issuance of the EUA.
