Police Reject Complaint Made Against President Jokowi

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Indonesian National Police Crime Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) announced that it had rejected the complaint filed against President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo by an organization naming themselves as ‘People’s Coalition Against Injustice.’

The organization alleged that the President had caused a crowd to gather – which they claimed to have violated the Covid-19 health protocols – during the President’s visit to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The organization’s disappointment was represented by one of its members, Kurnia, who conveyed their discontent at the Police HQ on Thursday, February 25, 2021.

“We are deeply disappointed by the police that does not want to make a report based on our formal complaint against the alleged health quarantine violation by the President,” Kurnia said.

Kurnia questioned the Police’s motive and the principle of ‘equality before the law’ that they said is always promoted by the police institution.

The organization insisted that the crowd that had gathered around President Jokowi’s vehicle – and during subsequent events – had violated health protocols. Kurnia added that a presidential visit is a scheduled event.

“It’s only appropriate to mitigate a crowd [from forming] during the presidential visit,” said Kurnia.
