Pertamina – Pegadaian Offer Waste-to-Gold Saving Trade-in Program

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta State energy firm Pertamina and state-owned pawnshop Pegadaian have collaborated in a waste management program that will reduce the waste produced by the public.

Pertamina will see its ‘waste bank’ program turn used cooking oil from the public into biodiesel while the Pegadaian waste bank encourages people to trade-in trash to save up gold in the firm.

The collaboration is an attempt to overcome the waste problems among society and encourage people’s welfare. It goes parallel with the ‘inclusive and collaborative’ view shared by state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to help achieve the government’s SDGs.

“We hope that the public will be more aware of the environment and will see that waste can also have economic values,” said Corporate Secretary Pertamina Tajudin Noor in a written statement on Friday, October 2. “We also intend to educate people to be more environmentally friendly by managing their waste.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Corporate Communication Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman hopes the collaboration will better attract the public’s interest to collect used cooking oil to be exchanged for gold savings.
