Luhut Concerned over Increasing Cases of Covid-19 in Central Java

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, deputy chair of the Covid-19 Relief Policies’ Committee and National Economic Recovery, is concerned over the increasing number of cases in Central Java. Over the last week, the province has recorded upticks as well as increasing bed occupancy ratio in the ICU by 65 percent.

Based on the data, Luhut urged regents to be vigilant. “In Semarang, 9,648 people have tested positive, and 644 have died,” Luhut said during a meeting with the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, Tuesday, October 13.

Since October 11, the occupancy rate of ICU rooms in the province’s Covid-19 referral hospital has been increasing to 65 percent. Before that, the occupancy rate had always been lower than 60 percent.

“We need to intensify efforts to lower the number, through collaborations between local governments, especially regions that still have significant increases,” said Luhut.

Luhut also reminded that the recovery rate in Central Java is only 71 percent, below the national average of 76.5 percent.

As per October 12, Central Java’s total number of Covid-19 cases reached 26,640 people, of which 18,852 recovered and 1,514 died.
