95% COVID-19 Cases in Bali Caused by Local Transmission: Task Force

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – A total of 8,059 COVID-19 cases, or 95.35 percent of confirmed infections, in Bali province were the result of local transmission, according to the local task force for COVID-19.

“As of today, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bali province have reached 8,452,” the day-to-day chief of the task force and secretary of the Bali provincial administration, Dewa Made Indra, said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the remaining 305 patients, or 3.61 percent of the total cases, had a history of international travel, and 88 or 1.04 percent patients had a history of domestic travel, he informed.

With a higher number of COVID-19 cases resulting from local transmission, Dewa Indra once again appealed to local residents to support the government’s efforts to avert the spread of COVID-19 by following health protocols everywhere and anytime.

“While COVID-19 vaccine and medicine have not been found, the most efficacious way to protect ourselves, (our) families, and the community is to remain disciplined by following the health protocols, (such as) wearing masks properly, washing hands with soap and running water, and keeping physical distancing,” he pointed out.

He said the province added 63 COVID-19 cases and 87 recoveries on Saturday.

“With 87 more patients recovering from the infection, the number of recoveries in Bali has reached 6,915, or 81.81 percent of the total confirmed cases,” he informed.

Meanwhile, two patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 247, or 2.92 percent of the total cases, he added.

He said 1,290 patients are receiving treatment at 17 hospitals and undergoing self-isolation at Bapelkesmas, UPT Nyitdah, Wisma Bima, Hotel Ibis, Hotel Grand Mega, and BPK Pering.
